Harnesses
Safety harnesses secure around the wearer’s shoulders, torso, and upper thighs to arrest a fall when working at heights. A self-retracting lifeline or shock-absorbing lanyard attaches to the fall-arrest harness via an attachment point on the harness, such as a D-ring. These lifelines then attach to a secure anchorage point on a structure. Many safety harnesses are equipped with additional features, pockets, and attachment points for a variety of accessories such as small electronics or spots to attach small tools. If a fall occurs, safety harnesses are designed to disperse the impact across the whole body to lessen its force.
