Electrostatic Filtration The Lennox Media Filters use electrostatic filtration to remove particulates from the air. As air passes through the electrostatically charged filter, the oppositely charged air particles are attracted to the filter media and are trapped. With 98% efficiency, this is a highly efficient form of filtration, several times more efficient than regular fiberglass filters.
MERV Rating These electrostatic filters are rated according to MERV, which is the minimum efficiency reporting value, which is the scale designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters. The higher MERV rating indicates higher filtering performance. The MERV 8 and MERV 11 filters remove particulates like dust mites, mold spores, pet dander, pollen, tobacco smoke, and bacteria; the MERV 13 removes the same particulates, but it also removes some viruses.
Carbon Filtration These filters are also available with the option of carbon filtration. These filters use activated carbon, which is carbon that has been treated with oxygen to create millions of extremely tiny, highly absorbent pores. The carbon filters trap common household odors (i.e. cooking odors, tobacco odors, musty odors, etc.), as well as smoke and gaseous vapors.
