The Precision 209 drill bit is a long-length, black oxide-coated, Morse taper shank drill bit. It can drill to a depth up to four times the diameter of the drill size. The longer length offers more flexibility in thicker materials or hard-to-reach locations. The 209 series has a type N flute form, with a regular helix angle (21 to 34 degrees) and a conventional point design that is the most commonly accepted standard for drilling holes in a variety of materials, such as metal, wood, and synthetics, with best performance in steel and cast iron. Black oxide improves lubricity, resists corrosion, and will not chip or flake off. Black oxide also helps to prevent buildup and welding of material on the tap’s cutting edge when working with iron and steel. The Morse taper is a shank that is tapered from one end to another. The taper of the tool fits into the taper of the tool-holder. The friction between the surfaces provides a secure holding systems and accurate placement of the tool. A drift pin is knocked into the slot at the tang to remove the tool.
