THE 10-MINUTE GUIDE TO ...

PREPARE YOUR BUSINESS FOR SPRING

Spring into spring with these tips for your business.

The start of a new season is nature’s reminder to reboot, retool, and refresh. Follow these three steps to turn springtime into “go” time.

Ten minute guide

Step 1: ADDRESS REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE ISSUES

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But if it is ...

Spring is the perfect time to inspect your property and fix anything that’s broken. It’s also ideal checking off those routine maintenance tasks. Here’s a few areas that may need attention.

FIRE SAFETY

Smoke alarms are crucial to keeping you and your employees safe in case of fire. It’s key to keep these and other fire safety equipment in working order. Follow these steps to prevent fires and help limit fire damage.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

A lot can go wrong with your A.C. over the winter, as it sits unused. Follow this checklist to make sure your unit is in prime condition for the warmer season.

Remove covers, debris, and replace damaged equipment.
Remove trash, leaves, or other plants from against the coil — they can limit it transferring heat effectively. If you mulch or hide your outdoor unit, make sure to allow for proper air flow.

Change air filters.
A clean filter uses less power, lowers energy costs, and improves indoor air quality.

Clean air vents.
Make sure all outdoor air grilles are open and free of debris. Indoors, dust vents and consider a deep clean on your system’s ducts. You can use an air compressor with a sprayer nozzle to clean off coils, vents, and outdoor units.

Consider window units.
Window air conditioners are easy to install and can effectively cool rooms without central air. They can also help take the load off your main system and improve overall efficiency.

Inspect your thermostat and electrical connections.

  • Check your settings to make sure the system is cooling as programmed.
  • Adding a programmable thermostat can help with cooling efficiency.
  • Repair any loose wires or connections to prevent malfunction or fire hazards.

OUTDOORS

Spruce up your building’s exterior. Make a good impression on visiting customers by fixing any visible problem areas around your business location.

  • Clear your walkways of any leaves, trash, or other debris (with a broom, rake, leaf blower, or pressure washer)
  • Make a list of cracks or breaks in your sidewalks
  • Fix any potholes in your parking lot
  • Check your signage, roof, windows, and customer entrance for repairs
  • Trim, plant, and refresh your landscaping (bushes, trees, flowers, mulch)

Step 2: CLEAN AND ORGANIZE

Clear up. Pick up. Spruce up. Straighten up.

Extra Power

Consider using a pressure washer on your building to clean any extra-determined grime. We’ve created a Pressure Washer Buying Guide to help you find the perfect one for your needs.

Customer-Facing Areas

Make sure your carpets, floors, surfaces, and vacuumed, deep cleaned, mopped, scrubbed, and sanitized. No need to scare anyone away.

Organize It

Pack up your winter stuff and store it in a clean, dry place until you need it again.

Restock Your Supplies

Check your breakroom items, restroom necessities, paper towels, and other everyday essentials.

STEP 3: REVIEW DISASTER PLANS

Ready a blueprint for worst-case scenarios.

$34,000. That’s the average flood claim in the last ten years. Spring is prime flood season — thanks to all melting snow, driving rain storms, and rising waterways.

And it’s not only floods that can strike in spring: hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes can also cause damage. Now is the time to test your backup generators, restock emergency kits, and form a plan in case of disaster. Are you prepared?
