What are Abrasives?
Abrasives remove and smooth rough edges, nicks, burrs, and notches from materials such as wood, metal, and steel. Grinding wheels and cut-off wheels finish a variety of surfaces including glass, wood, metal, and concrete. Abrasives are made from minerals, a mix of synthetics and minerals, or solely synthetic materials. Common minerals used to make abrasives include aluminum oxide, cubic boron nitride, and silicon carbide. Abrasives come in a wide range of grits ranging approximately from 12 to 1,200. The higher the number, the finer the grit. To sand your workpiece successfully, your grit strength must be stronger than your workpiece.
What are Polishers?
Polishers can help enhance the appearance of your workpiece by giving it a lustrous, reflective look. Polishing metal can enhance its strength, while polishing wood will give it a smooth look. At Zoro, we carry everything you need to polish your project including honing brushes, polisher parts, buffing and polishing compounds, vibratory tumblers, felt stars, abrasive bobs, and more.
