Chafers are heated serving trays that are used to keep food warm for extended periods of time. They are typically used in buffet settings, catering events, and other food service applications where food needs to be kept at a consistent temperature.

There are several different types of chafers, each designed for specific purposes. Some common types include: electric chafers, which are powered by electricity and provide precise temperature control; fuel chafers, which use sterno or other fuel sources to generate heat; and chafing dishes, which are designed to hold food for extended periods of time without the need for external heat.

Chafers are typically made of durable materials such as stainless steel, which is resistant to corrosion and easy to clean. Other materials used in chafer construction include aluminum, copper, and cast iron, each offering unique advantages in terms of heat retention, durability, and aesthetics.

When selecting a chafer, key factors to consider include: size, capacity, heat source, and design. The size and capacity of the chafer should be appropriate for the amount of food being served. The heat source should provide sufficient heat to keep food at a safe temperature, and the design should complement the intended use and aesthetic requirements.
