When it comes to working with sharp tools, cut-resistant gloves are an essential piece of safety equipment. These gloves are designed to protect the wearer from the hazards of their profession, whether they are working in construction, machining, or other industrial fields. To choose the right pair of gloves, it is important to understand the different types of cut protection available and how they relate to your job.

Types of Cut-Resistant Gloves

There are three main cut-resistant gloves: metal mesh gloves, cut and sewn gloves, and seamless knitted gloves. Each type of glove offers unique benefits and is designed to handle specific materials. Metal mesh gloves are ideal for food service workers who handle slicing blades. Cut and sewn gloves are designed to handle abrasive materials, while seamless knitted gloves is made of high-performance materials like Kevlar and offer higher protection.

Cut Resistance Levels

Cut resistance levels range from one to five, with level five offering the highest level of protection. Level-five gloves are the best choice for jobs requiring frequent contact with extremely sharp materials, like glass or sheet metal. Level four gloves are often suitable for a good balance between protection and dexterity. Level three gloves are ideal for light work with knives or other cutting tools.

The level of protection is based on the blade cut force and how well the gloves resist cuts from a grinding wheel.

1. Level 0 (A): Minimal protection from minor cuts and abrasions.
2. Level 1 (B): Low level protection from lighter cuts.
3. Level 2 ^©: Moderate protection from cuts and light abrasion.
4. Level 3 (D): High level protection from more severe cuts, punctures, and abrasion.
5. Level 4 (E): Maximum protection from heavy cut, tear, puncture, and abrasion.
6. Level 5 (F): Highest level of protection from extreme cuts, tears, punctures, and abrasion.
