Surgical masks are loose-fitting, disposable masks that create a physical barrier between the wearer's mouth and nose and potential contaminants in the immediate environment. Respirators, on the other hand, are close-fitting devices that cover the wearer's nose and mouth and provide protection against airborne particles by filtering out or blocking them.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing a face mask in public settings where there is a high risk of transmission, such as crowded indoor spaces or areas with poor ventilation. Face masks are also recommended for healthcare workers and other individuals who are at high risk of exposure to respiratory illnesses.

When choosing a face mask, it is important to consider the level of protection needed, the fit of the mask, and the comfort of the mask. Surgical masks are suitable for general public use, while respirators are recommended for healthcare workers and other individuals who are at high risk of exposure to respiratory illnesses. It is also important to ensure that the mask fits snugly against the face and covers the nose and mouth completely.

To properly wear a face mask, follow these steps: 1. Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before touching the mask. 2. Place the mask over your nose and mouth, ensuring that it covers both completely. 3. Adjust the ear loops or headbands to secure the mask snugly against your face. 4. Avoid touching the front of the mask while wearing it. 5. Remove the mask by untying the ear loops or headbands. 6. Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer after removing the mask.
