Fiber discs are abrasive discs used for grinding, cutting, and polishing various materials. They are composed of a thin fiber backing that is coated with an abrasive compound such as aluminum oxide or silicon carbide.

Types of Fiber Discs

Fiber discs come in many different types and sizes, depending on the application. Coarse grit fiber discs are used for heavy material removal while fine grit fiber discs are used for polishing and finishing applications. Specialty fiber discs can also be found that contain diamond particles or other compounds to provide additional cutting power.

How Fiber Discs Are Made

Fiber discs are constructed from a combination of materials including paper, cloth, and synthetic fibers. The backing is then coated with a resin bond that holds the abrasive compound in place. Depending on the application, different types of bonding agents may be used to ensure maximum performance.

Industries That Use Fiber Discs

Fiber discs are commonly used in many industries including metalworking, automotive repair, woodworking, construction, and manufacturing. Professionals use them to remove rust or paint from metal surfaces as well as shape and polish wood products.
