Laminate trimmers and trim routers are handheld rotary power tools used to finish, or give shape to, the edges of plastic and wood. Laminate trimmers are essentially small routers for trimming edges of glued laminate to make it flush with sublayers or sub-materials. Routers use bits to shape, trim, plunge cut or groove. Routers can also make cutouts. Lower horsepower routers are best for everyday use. Medium horsepower (between 1.75 and 2.3 horsepower) units are best for creating cutouts, grooving, and making plunge cuts in wood. High horsepower (more than 2.3 horsepower) units are best suited to more demanding uses such as wide or deep plunge cuts and other work on larger workpieces. Items may vary by base type, horsepower, corded or cordless, no load RPM, inclusions, features and other considerations.
