A membrane filter is a selectively permeable barrier that allows certain molecules or particles to pass through while retaining others. Membrane filters work by a process called filtration. In filtration, the liquid or gas to be filtered is passed through the membrane, which retains the particles that are larger than the pores in the membrane and allows the smaller particles to pass through.
