What are the main characteristics of pillow block bearings?

Pillow block bearings are housed bearings that integrate a mounting base with a bearing insert. They are widely preferred for their ease of installation and alignment, offering self-lubrication and low maintenance requirements.

What is the primary function of a flange bearing?

A flange bearing features a flange that allows for direct mounting on a flat surface. Its primary function is to provide support and guidance to rotating shafts, preventing axial displacement and ensuring smooth operation.

How do pillow block bearings differ from flange bearings?

Pillow block bearings are typically used to support shafts in a stationary position, while flange bearings are designed to mount shafts that require axial movement or adjustment. Flange bearings also provide enhanced stability for shafts operating under higher loads.

What materials are used in the construction of pillow block and flange bearings?

These bearings are commonly made from cast iron or steel for the housing, providing strength and durability. The bearing inserts can be composed of various materials, including ball bearings, roller bearings, or plain bearings, which determine their load capacity, speed capabilities, and friction characteristics.
