The backset of a door knob measures the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the knob bore hole. Standard backsets are either 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches. You can measure the backset of your existing door knob or consult a professional to determine the correct size for your door.

Privacy door knobs feature a locking mechanism that allows for privacy in rooms such as bathrooms or bedrooms. When the privacy button is engaged, the door can only be opened from the inside. Standard door knobs do not have this locking feature and can be opened from either side.

There are various types of privacy door knobs available, including: * **Round privacy knobs:** These are the most common type and feature a round handle. * **Lever privacy knobs:** These have a lever-shaped handle that is easier to grip and operate. * **Passage door knobs:** These do not lock and are typically used on doors that do not require privacy, such as closets or pantries. * **Dummy door knobs:** These are non-functional door knobs used solely for decorative purposes.

Installing a privacy door knob is a relatively simple task that you can do yourself with the right tools. 1. Gather the necessary supplies, including the door knob, strike plate, screws, and a Phillips head screwdriver. 2. Remove the old door knob by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. 3. Insert the new door knob into the bore hole and secure it with the screws. 4. Install the strike plate on the door frame and align it with the door knob latch. 5. Test the door knob to ensure it operates smoothly and locks securely.
