About Repair Putties
When a hole needs to be filled or a crack needs sealing, putty can be your answer. Putty and other sealants are used by carpenters, woodworkers, plumbers, contractors, and repair people to patch and seal the biggest jobs. Special epoxy putties are made for almost every surface or project—glass putty, metal putty, waterproof putty for pipes and plumbing, putties for automotive and boat chassis, putty for sealing windows, or wood putty for hardwood floors. You can select putty filler by color, size, container type, temperature range, and more. Partner your putty with other adhesives and glues to fix leaks and bond almost any material. Let’s explore the most common types of putty.
Wood Putty and Wood Fillers
Do you know the difference between wood filler and wood putty? It’s simple—wood fillers can be sanded, stained, and are best used on unfinished pieces, while wood putty works best on finished pieces. Wood filler often contains some wood and is great for filling in gouges, scratches, and nicks on unfinished pieces of furniture or wood flooring. You can also use wood filler to mold corners and edges on damaged shelves or furniture. Wood putty is usually made from synthetic materials and comes in a variety of colors to match your piece. Use wood putty to patch holes, dents, and nicks on finished furniture. No matter which type of product you’re in the market for, you can find everything you need for your wood-patching projects at Zoro.
Plumber’s Putty
Plumber’s putty is a staple in every plumber’s tool box. It’s soft, pliable, and creates a water-tight seal. Plumber’s putty is great for plumbing jobs because there’s no adhesive component, so you can remove the part you applied the putty to long after its application. Plumber’s putty is often used in sink fixtures and around the undersides of sink strainers and pop-up drains.
Painter’s Putty
Painter’s putty is great for repairing holes, scratches, and dents in plaster walls. This cement-based putty allows you to achieve a smooth look before painting your surface. Similar products to painter’s putty include spackling and wall putty.
