Music is a dignified expression for the Dinka tribes of Southern Sudan. These are the songs of women. Scholar Dr. Francis Deng, himself a Dinka, explains that a woman often creates her identity through her description of the identity of her husband, often “prais[ing] her husband and through him herself with surprising snobbery.” Extensive liner notes include English translations.
