Spotting Drills

These stub-length drill bits, typically used with spot drills or stub drills, are used to start holes, as a measure of safety and damage prevention, thereby preventing standard drill bits, such as jobber length drill bits, from damaging the surface by walking or moving when the real drilling starts. Products vary by drill point, size, length, application and composition. Composition choices include general purpose high speed steel for general use, heavy duty cobalt steel for more demanding jobs requiring more wear resistance such as drilling through heat treated steel and titanium alloys, and carbide for the toughest materials to drill such as cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and glass.
