Description
Are you a supertaster? Find out with this simple and fun test! Put one strip on your tongue for 10 second and if you taste bitterness you have this characteristic homozygous dominant or heterozygous 100 pre-cut strips enable you to test all of your friends, family, and classes very economically Perfect for demonstrating genetic pedigrees and learning about genotypes and phenotypes This product is all you need for a demonstration of genetics and heredity. These strips can be used to help determine if a person is a ‘supertaster’ and can be used to effectively demonstrate the effects of heredity on taste. PTC (pheylthiocarbamide) can help you gain an understanding of someone’s genetic pedigree. The strip can taste anywhere from bland to incredibly bitter for individuals depending on their genotype and phenotype. PTC Paper has been used widely since its discovery to detect genetic variation in tasting abilities. Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) is a chemical which causes a bitter flavor to some people. This is a genetic variation which normally occurs in a ratio of 75% who can taste PTC versus 25% of those who cannot. Research suggest it is related to an enzyme which is produced by cells on the tongue. Though not essential for survival, this condition might explain why some people are more sensitive to bitter tastes than others. Instructions: 1.Remove a PTC taste test paper from the vial. 2.Stick out your tongue, and place the strip on your tongue. 3.There are three basic results: bland, bitter, or vile. PTC Taste Test Paper is perfectly safe to use. Any possible toxicity of PTC would be in grams per kilogram of body weight, which is millions of times greater than anything which would be found in our taste test strips. Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) is present at only 20 micrograms per strip. At this level, the compound is negligible and harmless.
