A battery backup, also known as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), provides temporary power to connected equipment when the primary power source fails. It protects critical devices from data loss, system damage, and downtime during power outages and voltage fluctuations.

When the primary power source is available, the battery backup charges its internal battery and supplies power to connected equipment. Upon a power outage, the battery backup instantly switches to battery power, providing a seamless transition and uninterrupted operation for a predetermined period.

Battery backups come in various types, including standby, online, and line-interactive. Standby battery backups provide basic protection during short outages, while online and line-interactive systems offer more comprehensive protection with voltage regulation and extended runtime capabilities.

Selecting the appropriate battery backup depends on factors such as the power requirements of your equipment and the expected duration of outages. Consider the wattage and runtime of the battery backup, as well as its features and compatibility with your devices.
