What is the purpose of a burette?

A burette is a precision laboratory glassware used to accurately measure and dispense a specific volume of liquid. It is typically made from borosilicate glass and features a long, graduated cylinder with a stopcock at the bottom.

How do I use a burette correctly?

To use a burette, first rinse it several times with the liquid you will be measuring. Fill the burette to above the 0 mark, then use the stopcock to carefully adjust the liquid level to the desired starting point. Tilt the burette slightly and slowly open the stopcock to dispense the liquid into your target vessel.

What are the different types of burettes available?

Burettes come in various sizes, ranging from 10 ml to 100 ml, and with different levels of precision. There are Class A and Class B burettes, with Class A being more precise. Additionally, there are digital burettes that provide electronic readings and automated dispensing.

How do I maintain and calibrate a burette?

To maintain the accuracy of your burette, it is recommended to clean it thoroughly after each use. Rinse it with water, acetone, and then water again. To calibrate a burette, use a certified balance and follow the manufacturer's instructions to adjust the stopcock to dispense the correct volume.
