About Captive Nuts
Captive nuts (or cage nuts) are square nuts that are wrapped in a spring steel casing and are typically used in the mounting of equipment racks. Cage nuts have two wings, and when compressed, allow the nuts to fit tightly into square holes, with the wings holding the nut firmly in place. A clip nut is another type of captive nut that is designed to be clipped to sheet metal, while a lock nut has a nylon inner sleeve for a tighter seal that’s resistant to loosening due to excessive vibration.
