Fiberglass is a lightweight, strong, and durable material made from extremely fine fibers of glass. These fibers are bundled together to create a fabric that is then coated with a resin, resulting in a composite material with exceptional properties.

What are the advantages of using fiberglass?

Fiberglass offers numerous advantages, including high strength-to-weight ratio, making it lightweight and strong. It also exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and extreme temperatures, making it suitable for use in various applications.

What is the difference between woven and non-woven fiberglass?

Woven fiberglass is made by weaving together strands of fiberglass to form a fabric, while non-woven fiberglass is created by bonding random fibers together. Woven fiberglass provides higher strength and durability, while non-woven fiberglass is more flexible and easier to work with.

What are the common applications of fiberglass?

Fiberglass is extensively used in a wide range of applications, including boat hulls, automotive and aerospace components, building materials, insulation, and various marine and recreational products due to its exceptional properties and versatility.

Fiberglass - Raw Materials

About Fiberglass

Fiberglass is a strong, lightweight material that has been used for decades in a variety of industries. It is composed of glass fibers combined with a resin to form an incredibly strong and versatile composite material. Fiberglass can be found in many different forms, such as bar stock, flat stock, and raw materials.

Types of Fiberglass

Fiberglass bar stock is commonly used when strength and rigidity are the primary goals. Flat fiberglass stock is often used when the goal is to create something thin but still durable. Raw fiberglass materials are ideal for custom projects or repairs where specific shapes or sizes are needed.

How Fiberglass are Made

Fiberglassing materials typically involve combining glass fibers with resin to form an extremely tough composite material. The type of resin used will depend on the desired properties of the end product; polyester resins are generally cheaper but less durable than epoxy resins.

Industries that use Fiberglass

Fiberglass can be found in a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, construction, electrical engineering and more. Professionals from these fields use fiberglassing materials to create components that offer durability and strength at a lower weight than traditional metals.
