What is Key Stock and how does it differ from other fasteners?

Key Stock is a type of fastener that is designed to provide a secure and durable connection between two pieces of material. Key Stock is hex-shaped with a tapped hole on one end and is produced in metric and inch sizes. The tapped hole allows for the use of a key or Allen wrench to drive the fastener. You will select a key to match the size of the tapped hole on the Key Stock, not the width of the stock. Key Stock is similar to a dowel pin that is designed to both secure and register a component's location and differs from other fasteners that may just provide a connection.

What materials are Key Stock commonly made of?

Key Stock is commonly made of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Steel is the most common material used for Key Stock due to its strength and durability. Stainless steel is a good choice for applications where corrosion resistance is required. Aluminum is a lightweight material that is often used for applications where weight is a concern.

What are some common applications for Key Stock?

Key Stock is used in a variety of applications, including: * Mechanical assemblies * Automotive parts * Aerospace components * Medical devices * Furniture

What are the benefits of using Key Stock?

Key Stock offers a number of benefits, including: * Easy installation * Secure and durable connection * Resistance to vibration and loosening * Can be used in a variety of applications

About Key Stock

Unlock the world of Key Stock - a crucial material in manufacturing and engineering - with our expert guidance to help you make the right purchase decision. As specialists in key stock fasteners, we provide insights into grades, hardness, and the nuances of oversized and undersized options to ensure you select the perfect fit for your specific needs.

Understanding Key Stock Grades

Key Stock comes in various grades, each designed for specific applications:

Low Carbon Steel: Suitable for general-purpose use.
Stainless Steel: Resistant to corrosion, ideal for harsh environments.
Aluminum Alloy, Brass Alloy, Bronze Alloy, and Plastic Compounds: Tailored to specific applications, offering unique properties.

Hardness Matters

Consider the hardness of Key Stock, often measured in Rockwell hardness (HRC). The right hardness ensures the material withstands the demands of your application. For instance, higher HRC values indicate increased hardness and durability, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications.

Oversized vs. Undersized Key Stock

Understanding the difference between oversized and undersized Key Stock is crucial:

Oversized: Slightly larger than the nominal size, offering a tight fit and increased strength.
Undersized: Slightly smaller than the nominal size, providing flexibility and ease of installation.

Crafting Precision Components

Key Stock is crafted from various steel alloy materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum alloy, brass alloy, bronze alloy, or plastic compounds. The choice depends on the specific application, with different configurations ensuring optimal performance for the constructed part.

Key Stock Across Industries

Industries such as automotive manufacturing, aerospace engineering, and industrial machining rely on Key Stock to create precise components for machinery. The material's versatility and ability to meet precise measurements make it indispensable in these fields.
