Pavement markings are classified into three main types: longitudinal markings, transverse markings, and object markers. Longitudinal markings run parallel to the direction of traffic, while transverse markings run perpendicular to traffic. Object markers indicate the presence of objects in or near the roadway.

Pavement markings enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and provide guidance to drivers. They help define lanes, indicate stopping points, warn of potential hazards, and guide drivers through intersections and curves.

Pavement markings are typically made from thermoplastic, epoxy, or paint. Thermoplastic markings are durable and long-lasting, while epoxy markings are known for their adhesion and resistance to wear and tear. Paint markings are a versatile option but require more frequent maintenance.

Pavement markings are applied using specialized equipment, such as airless sprayers, line striping machines, and hand-held applicators. The application process involves preparing the pavement surface, applying the marking material, and allowing it to cure and dry.
