Soft Face & Split Head Hammers
Avoid damage to the workpiece surface with soft faced hammers. There are many applications which call for a tool that can strike blows with just enough give that it will not mar the surface of the object being struck, or overpower the fastener it is used on. Example applications may include setting stone, setting wood pins, shaping sheet metal, or tapping delicate pins, nylon fasteners and panel rivets into place, and so on. The other half of this category, split head hammers (AKA replaceable face hammers), can be outfitted with different soft striking heads (sold separately) on both sides, adapting it to the workpiece and essentially making it a multi-purpose tool. These heads are wide, enabling the distribution of force over a larger area. Typically these heads (rubber tips) vary in hardness and are made of rubbers, polymers or elastomers such as polyurethane, cellulose acetate and nylon.
