The PC640A or PX640A is a mercury-free replacement for the once popular
Mercuric Oxide MR52 (or PX640) cell that was commonly used in cameras (such as
Yashica TL-Electro, Electro 35 FC, Lynx 14-E and Lynx 5000E). The MR52 (or
PX640) was also used in early Hakko rifle scopes. Mercury cells are now banned
because of toxicity and environmental fears.
The PC640A or PX640A cells produce 1.5 Volts, which is higher than the
1.35V produced by the original mercury cell. Most devices accommodate the small
increase in voltage and function perfectly.
The PC640A or PX640A is likely to be your only choice of battery
