Extension Springs

Extension springs hold parts together. When the ends of the spring are attached to different parts and the parts are pulled apart, the spring stretches and pulls against the load in an effort to return to its original shape, bringing the parts together. The farther a spring is pulled apart, the greater the force it exerts on the attached parts. These springs are often found in equipment such as cots, garage door mechanisms, and vice-grip pliers.
