Carbide's extreme hardness allows for the tool to be run much faster than hss or cobalt. It provides a high degree of wear resistance by withstand high cutting temperatures. The rigidity of carbide allows for excellent surface finishes and dimensional accuracy. Flat allows set screws in holder to tighten on the flats to prevent end mill from rotating.
