Merit butt welding is the most preferred method to join pipe connections. Butt weld fittings need to have the same wall thickness and diameter of the pipe they are connecting. The pipe and the fitting are both beveled. This allows the ends to butt together, which forms a groove to hold the weld filler. Advantages of utilizing butt weld fittings are lower cost, less maintenance and they are stronger than threaded joints.
