Mortar is a type of adhesive material that is used in construction to hold together bricks, stones, and other building materials. It is a combination of sand, cement, lime, and water that forms a paste-like substance when mixed together.

Types of Mortar

Adhesive mortar mix and thinset concrete are two types of mortar commonly used in construction. Adhesive mortar mix provides a stronger bond than thinset concrete due to its higher content of cement and sand. Thinset concrete is more flexible than adhesive mortar mix but does not provide as strong a bond.

How Mortar Is Made

Mortar can be made from various combinations of ingredients such as sand, cement, lime, and water. The ratios between these ingredients will vary depending on the desired strength and flexibility for the project. In addition to these components, certain additives may be added for specific applications.

Industries that use Mortar

Mortar is used by many industries including masonry workers who build walls with brick or stone; tile setters who install ceramic or porcelain tiles; plasterers who apply plaster coatings; and concrete finishers who work with poured concrete surfaces. Professionals in these fields rely on mortar to ensure their projects are structurally sound and visually appealing.
