Planes and Shaving Tools
A longtime part of the woodworker’s toolbox, planes and shaving tools are used to trim, cut, shape, smooth and finish hard surfaces. Wood is by no means the only material that can be planed or shaved, however—metal planes and shavers are readily available. Block planes and bench planes can be used for larger jobs, and rabbet planes—sometimes called “rebate planes”—are designed specifically to cut rabbets in wood. In general, the size of the surface you’re working with will determine whether to use a hand plane or shaver (small jobs) or a pro-style block or bench plane (larger jobs). In addition to planes and shavers, Zoro features an entire selection of cutting and shaping tools, including punches, chisels, files and rasps.
