Sunglasses and safety glasses are both essential for protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. But what if you need prescription lenses? Can you still wear sunglasses as safety glasses? The answer is yes! Safety rated sunglasses are designed to provide the same level of protection as traditional safety glasses, while also providing the convenience of prescription lenses.

How to Choose Safety Sunglasses

When choosing safety sunglasses, it’s important to make sure they meet the necessary safety standards. Look for sunglasses that are marked as “ANSI Z87.1-2015” or “EN 166” compliant. This means they have been tested and certified to provide the necessary protection for your eyes.

Uses for Safety Sunglasses

Safety sunglasses are ideal for any outdoor activity where you need to protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays. They are also great for activities like biking, fishing, and skiing, where you need to protect your eyes from wind and debris. Safety sunglasses can also be used in industrial settings, such as construction sites or manufacturing facilities, where eye protection is required.

Types of Safety Sunglasses

Safety sunglasses come in a variety of styles and materials. You can choose from plastic frames, metal frames, or even wrap-around frames. You can also choose from polarized lenses, which reduce glare, or tinted lenses, which provide additional protection from UV rays.

Materials Used in Safety Sunglasses

Safety sunglasses are typically made from polycarbonate or Trivex materials. These materials are lightweight and shatter-resistant, making them ideal for protecting your eyes from impact. They also provide 100% UV protection, so you can be sure your eyes are safe from the sun’s harmful rays.
