James W Johnson was born in Endicott, NY, in 1954. He moved to Lubbock in 1978 to attend graduate school at Texas Tech. He holds a BA degree from The State University of New York at Oswego and an MFA from Texas Tech University. James has worked as a full-time studio artist for more than 30 years. While being primarily a painter, James has produced a large and complex body of work which includes over 2,000 unique pieces in a wide variety of mediums such painting, drawing, sculpture, etching, digital, mixed media, video, and furniture. He has participated in more than 170 exhibitions worldwide and has over 750 pieces included in more than 200 public and private collections on five continents. In 1998, James was featured on the cover of the national publication New American Paintings. His latest paintings make use of a variety of techniques and imagery to explore connections between life and art and are open to viewer interpretation.

Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
