About Turning Inserts
Turning inserts are cutting edges that are inserted, as replaceable attachments, into a turning machine that turns the workpiece, while the fixed turning insert shapes, drills, planes, grinds, edges, parts or grooves the workpiece. Inserts range from rough cut to fine finishing cut capability. Items are further differentiated by whether they are carbide inserts, ceramic inserts, cast iron, steel, and other forms of composition. Also, the shape of the insert determines the type of cut. Metal compatibility, cutting direction, style, and grade are just a few additional considerations when selecting turning inserts.
