Underground electrical enclosures are specialized containers designed to protect electrical connections and components from environmental factors, primarily when installed underground. They are typically made from robust materials such as plastic, stainless steel, or fiberglass to withstand the harsh underground conditions, including moisture, dirt, and extreme temperatures. There are several types of underground electrical enclosures available. The most common types include junction boxes, which are used to protect wire connections and provide a safety barrier; pull boxes, which are larger enclosures that provide easy access for pulling, splicing, and maintaining underground cables; and meter boxes, which house electrical meters. Each type of enclosure is designed for a specific application, and the choice depends on the nature of the electrical system, the environmental conditions, and the local regulations.
