Underlayment is a material placed beneath flooring to provide additional support, moisture protection, and sound absorption. It helps level uneven subfloors, prevent moisture damage, and dampen noise.

There are various types of underlayment, including felt, cork, foam, rubber, and plywood. Each material offers unique advantages, such as moisture resistance, durability, and noise reduction.

Consider factors such as the type of flooring you're installing and the subfloor condition. For hardwood or laminate flooring, a foam or cork underlayment is recommended. For tile flooring, a cement board or plywood underlayment is suitable.

Proper installation is crucial. Ensure the subfloor is clean and level. Roll out the underlayment, overlapping the seams by at least 2 inches. Use underlayment tape to secure the joints and apply adhesive if necessary.
