Designed to be mounted flush against an exterior wall, wall hydrants require plumbers, workers and maintenance people to use a key to open the valve that allows water to flow. This design differs from common wall faucets that are equipped with handles that attach to the valve. Though some wall hydrants include a locking door and vacuum breaker, all wall hydrants require a key to turn. Freeze- and frost-proof wall hydrants are available as well.
