IP ratings are a combination of numerals that give an indication of the effectiveness of the protection against solids and liquids. These ratings are usually shown as IP followed by two numbers. The first number indicates the level of protection against solids (e.g., dust, dirt), while the second number indicates the level of protection against liquids (e.g., water). For example, an IP67-rated locking connector is designed to be dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion in water at depths of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

There are three major locking connector types: bayonet locking connectors, screw locking connectors, and push-pull locking connectors. Bayonet locking connectors have a bayonet-style locking mechanism that allows for quick and easy mating and unmating. Screw locking connectors have a screw-type locking mechanism that provides a more secure connection than bayonet locking connectors. Push-pull locking connectors have a push-pull locking mechanism that allows for quick and easy mating and unmating, even in difficult-to-reach areas.

Locking connectors are commonly utilised in various industries including automation, telecommunications, power distribution, and lighting due to their ability to provide a secure, reliable connection in harsh or potentially hazardous environments. The locking mechanism prevents accidental disconnection, ensuring uninterrupted transmission of power, data, or other signals. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications and are available in various shapes, sizes, and configurations to meet specific requirements.

Locking connectors provide several advantages over standard connectors, including enhanced safety, durability, and reliability. The locking mechanism ensures a secure connection, eliminating the risk of accidental disconnection and potential hazards such as electrical arcing, equipment damage, or personal injury. They are constructed from robust materials that can withstand harsh environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, vibrations, and exposure to liquids or chemicals. Additionally, locking connectors provide long-lasting performance and are highly reliable, reducing downtime and maintenance needs.
