ECM Motors
About ECM Motors
“Electronically commutated motors” (AKA ECM motors) is a fancy way of referring to motors that use electronic controls to vary their speed. These lower HP, direct drive, small DC motors are used in many consumer and commercial HVAC applications, and those applications differ depending on their housing style. For example, ECM motors with a slightly more open enclosure are typically used in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. Totally enclosed, air-over ECM direct drive blower motors can be used in place of shaded pole motors in refrigerated cases, large coolers and ice machines. Lastly, brushless DC motors with open, air-over enclosures are great options for powering furnace blowers. As for air conditioning, see our room air conditioner motors.
